The Cleanie Awards® Honors the Clean Energy Leadership Institute as the 2021 Company of the Year (Nonprofit) Gold Level Place Winner
[OAKLAND, CA] – November 16, 2021 – The Clean Energy Leadership Institute has been selected as The Cleanie Awards® Gold Level place winner for 2021 Company of the Year (Nonprofit). The Cleanie Awards is the leading awards program celebrating people and brands driving the clean energy economy. The program recognizes innovation excellence and business leadership. Individuals and organizations across many facets of the industry submitted nominations.
This award, judged by industry peers, signifies how influential the Clean Energy Leadership Institute has been with advocating for a sustainable future, specifically within the nonprofit sector.
“We are extremely proud to recognize this year’s innovators, influencers and advocates, who work tirelessly to champion the clean energy transition in what will be a decisive decade,” said Randee Gilmore, executive director, The Cleanie Awards. “We continuously see nearly a triple digit increase in the number of submissions year over year, which demonstrates industry growth and the desire for a comprehensive amplification platform for climate solutions.”
With programs operating in Washington, D.C., California's Bay Area, Chicago, New York, and two National Cohorts, the Clean Energy Leadership Institute (CELI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to developing a new kind of energy leadership. CELI’s mission is to create a multiracial, diverse and inclusive community of change-makers working across sectors and disciplines to drive an equitable, decarbonized, and resilient energy ecosystem. Over the last eight years, CELI has trained ~800 professionals from 500+ organizations through their signature Fellowship program and an additional 6,000+ students and professionals through their clean energy educational and community programming.
“CELI has a pivotal role to play at this moment as we work hard to expand access to clean energy education, leadership development and the community of practice crucial to achieving a transition to a clean energy economy at the necessary speed and scale. Patterns of inequity cut across every aspect of the energy ecosystem – from environmental harms to energy insecurity, to energy burden, and to the lack of access to clean economy programs, infrastructure, and jobs. CELI believes that demanding racial and economic justice from a clean energy economy is as important as reaching climate ambition targets of 1.5°C. Through CELI’s programs, including the Fellowship, the Edict Internship Program, Alumni and Membership Program, CELI brings together the many players in the clean energy ecosystem to take collective action towards our values.”
The Clean Energy Leadership Institute was selected by a cohort of peers including judges and leaders representing a cross section of the cleantech and renewable energy sectors, including Alison Mickey, Fluence; Ayanna Nibbs, CohnReznick Capital; Emily Chasan, Generate Capital; Kirsten Williams, DC Water; Paul Quinlan, ScottMadden, Inc.; Remy Pangle, REpowering Schools; Ron DeLyons, Creekwood Energy Partners LLC; Raheleh Folkerts, Lightsource bp; Thiam Giam, Black & Veatch Management Consulting, LLC; and Zadie Oleksiw, Clearway Energy Group.
