2017 Alum Chase Counts Interviewed by Energy News Network for Weatherization Development in Virginia
2017 DC Alum Chase Counts of CHP Energy Solutions and their partners successfully advocated for proceeds generated through Virginia's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) to be used to address under-resourced Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) clients deferred for services due to health and safety or incidental repairs needed to make the home weatherization ready - like roof leak repairs needed before attic insulation can be installed securing the energy savings over course of the life of the energy saving measure. This is a Virginia-specific solution to a huge challenge all weatherization providers face across the United States.
Because fossil-fueled appliances in the homes they serve pose health and safety concerns to our clients, often resulting in their deferral due to excessive costs and rules within federal WAP, they are using this new funding resource to also electrify as many households as possible. They have identified more than 1,700 households we are proposing to electrify with these funds over the next 2-3 years. This is one way the WAP provider network is helping to ensure an equitable clean energy transition.
